Descriptions & Responsibilities
Viceroy :: Leader of the herd, or the alpha stallion. The Viceroy is responsible for ensuring the overall well-being of the herd, and should be fair in all of his dealings. He sets forth laws and delivers what judgment he sees appropriate for conflicts between other herd members.
Vicereine :: Mate of the Viceroy, the Vicereine holds equal authority, though she is not required to be as “hands on” within the herd. She assumes all of the Viceroy’s duties and power when he is away for any reason.
Grand Dukes & Duchesses :: Sons and daughters of the Viceroy and Vicereine, these foals have no particular responsibility other than to grow up to be healthy and strong heirs. They do, however, demand a certain level of respect and deference from other herd members. Once old enough and well-qualified enough, they are able to assume other titles (Baron, Count, Knight, etc.), based upon their skills.
Duke :: Advisor to the Viceroy. The Duke should, ideally, be an older stallion with plenty of experience and leadership ability. His purpose is to provide seasoned counsel to the lead, and to ensure that things are completed with due process and fairness for all. Should the Viceroy be too intimately involved in a dispute to be an impartial judge, the Duke may step in and preside over the discussion.(Absinthe's right hand man)
Duchess :: Usually the mate of the Duke. However, it is possible that the Duchess be the Advisory, and her mate is not the Duke.
Count :: Battle master of the herd, essentially a “captain” to the Knights. He is tasked with the training and organization of the troops in offensive maneuvers, those which venture beyond the reaches of the Basin In times of war directly against the lands, his responsibilities return closer to home, and his troops to be put to use under the Countess.
Countess :: Battle mistress of the herd, “captain” to the Dames. She is tasked with training and organizing the defensive troops of Aroura Basin , to protect the borders and repel attack from outside forces.
Baron :: Head recruiter of the herd. Tasked with seeking out potential herdmembers and bringing them back to the Basin if they accept the invitation.
Baroness :: Tasked with welcoming each and every newcomer to Aroura , the Baroness is responsible for ensuring that new herd members are comfortable and feel welcome in their new home. If there is no Baron, then the Baroness takes on his responsibilities, and vice-versa.
Knight :: A male warrior, or a female with exceptional skills in offensive endeavors.
Dame :: A female warrior, one who focuses primarily upon defense of those within the borders.
Freemen & women :: Unranked herd-members, those who have yet to prove themselves worthy of a particular rank, or simply too new to have been ranked.
Juveniles :: All colts and fillies below the age of two years. They have no responsibilities, save for that of learning and growing.
Elders :: All inhabitants who are too advanced in age to serve.
They serve as advisors and historians, preserving the traditions and skills passed on through the generations.
